Astro Navigation : 1

WHY I AM WRITING THIS
I was frustrated to see how different websites and tutorial on internet start with concepts of LHA, GHA, Azimuth and other celestial terms, which are very difficult to grasp and so the reader finally loses interest in the interesting science of stars. These stars have been very significant in navigation both at sea and land and is therefore an important skill to learn:
"And All I Ask is a Tall Ship and a Star to Steer Her By"
LESSON 1
We will start with familiarizing the navigation stars available to mankind. Out of all stars only 57 can be used for navigation.
Ursa Major also known as "Big Bear" and "Dub-e-Akbar" is perhaps the easiest to identify in sky. Below is a image of how Ursa major looks like in the sky. Ursa major follows the north star* and is therefore important to identify. These seven main stars of Ursa Major shaped like a spoon are brighter stars and therefore remain very much visible even in presence of moon (with some exceptions).

*North Star : Only visible in Northern Hemisphere and points towards north pole. Also known as polaris.
